I realize you could interpret this question in countless ways. I suppose I could be asking, what's your why for getting up in the morning? ...For pursuing professional success? ...To workout? ...To be here, rocking your BASE? I ask this because it's something that I'm continuously exploring with BASE Method, and the community and brand I'm trying to build. Yes, I love teaching fitness. Yes, I am fueled by sharing some sweat with my friends. Of course, working out keeps my crazy (somewhat) at bay. However, none of these reasons reveal my why. Why I'm still here. Why I'm bringing on others to teach the method. Why I'm continuing to push forward, gorilla-style and all. In truth, my why's are endless. I want you to feel successful. I want you to feel powerful, motivated, and strong. I want you to enjoy moving your body freely without regards for how hard you push or how long you hold. I want you to aspire for more, always, and yet share in the feeling that where you are today is exactly where you should be. I want you to feel seen, connected, supported, empowered. I want you to feel you can lean into me and this community to hold yourself accountable and offer the same for others. I want you to feel like anything is possible. I want our connection to always run deep to ensure that you know I’m always here, endlessly cheering you. I want to offer something consistent and efficient, to provide a workout that you both look forward to and can easily find time for. I want you to know you while we burn, sweat and work, we'll have a damn good time. I want you to walk away feeling confident, positive about yourself and what you just accomplished, and most importantly, happy. Does that seems like too much? In truth, I could keep going. But in recognizing the depth of which my why exists, I feel almost incapable to stop now. What's your why? For honestly, anything that you devote or spend time doing? How can we better focus our time on the things that matter most? Where our why list seems endless... Where we are powerless to ignore because it simply lights our soul up that deeply? What do you think you're trying to do, Brie? Build and grow a legitimate brand? Uhh, yeah. Yeah I do, actually. And well, I'm growing a gorilla, so let's be honest, this mama will be retiring to the trees for a min with a new babe on her back soon enough. When I started BASE nearly a year and a half ago, I envisioned its growth by its ability to grow a community. B.C. (Before COVID) and before baby - I wrote my mission statement: By powerfully connecting to the music and creating a space and community free of judgment, the mission of BASE Method is to offer classes and challenge groups that foster a love of movement, a desire to feel confident, a heightened sense of self, and the opportunity to feel stronger both in body and in spirit. With this, I set out to create something that truly felt different in a ginormous fitness ocean where endless options can make anyone feel lost at sea. While it's been one of the most challenging years of our lives, we've also remained steady and strong in our commitment to showing up, to this community and to ourselves. I'm excited to introduce the *new instructors* soon enough. Trust that they are phenomenal and will keep you rocking in the months to come! Oh, and to be clear, I'm not going anywhere. The plan is to only build a more robust live class schedule to increase your options to rock your BASE. I mean, they literally hang out in the most beautiful settings, put on fancy clothes, dance their pretty dances and drink champagne all day. Who wouldn't want that life? (Well, maybe minus the lack of rights you have as a woman and potentially having to marry someone 30 years your senior. Bygones.) Here's the thing. While I sure as hell will not be rocking any corsets currently, I can always carve out ways to enjoy things more like they seem to. We all can. You know the theme of my 2020 was finding ways to create joy. To provide happiness. Whether it be for yourself or for another. And as we continue to roll into another season of uncertainty (and some sh$t), for me, the theme remains. Sometimes it's the most basic things that bring us the greatest pleasure. So go ahead. Use that fancy glass for your La Croix. Hell, throw a few raspberries in there. Pretend ballroom dance in your kitchen. Throw on a fancy bra while you're at it. Then eat your cereal next to a fire.
